Duties, Taxes, Demurrage, Local Fees and Honorariums
The incidence of taxes varies from country to country. The way taxes are computed also varies substantially from nation to nation. Despite the international trade growth in recent years, the applicable duties do have certain parities, as well as vast differences.
The so called international harmonized tariff codes, usually define the level of duties and taxes applicable to all materials traded between different countries.
Duties and taxes are paid by the clients, usually at the moment the equipment is subjected to Customs Inspection. Local taxes are also applicable in certain instances.
These taxes and duties, as well as their incidence are predictable, and generally can be established with great accuracy by the time the contract is being negotiated and settled. A reliable Customs Broker should be capable to instruct any client with regards to the values involved in a normal import operation.
Other costs involved may be variable, depending on how fast and efficient is the inspection process and on how the Customs officers will conduct their inspection and approval of the goods being received.
Demurrage is a charge set per diem, and normally applies when documents do not match the cargo, or when shipping/documental discrepancies result in a delayed Customs procedure. Other charges inherent to the handling, lifting/unloading the goods may apply, as well as the ad valorem fees normally due to the Customs Brokerage Agents.
Dometek sells all merchandise as FOB our Refurbishment centers. Therefore, insurance, land and overseas freight, brokerage, duties, etc., are paid by the final customers by the time they clear Customs.

It is advisable to keep a provision for such occurrences so as to facilitate the rapid clearance of the goods from Customs.
